-Interview with My Professor-

When picking a professor for my assignment.
I had many professors in mind; many I knew that would make an easy assignment.
Then thought of this assignment as a way to get to know a professor that I was not as familiar with.

I pick Professor Charles Peaden for my assignment.

This spring semester is my first semester to even meet Professor Peaden.

I must admit going into this semester I was very intimidated by him, and not looking forward to his class at all, one reason being, I was taking him for government.

Government, History, Politics - not my strong points.
I am more math, science, art.
You know?
The creative stuff.
When it comes to Whys? and Whens? HA! Not me.
I have to be quite, still, pay attention - definitely not me.

So I thought lets get to know this professor, a little more, maybe I will stick with his class.

Getting to Know Professor Peaden

With this assignment for photojournalism we were to get to know the Professor a little more and find out something unique about them.

Here is an overview of my interview with Professor Peaden my questions and his answers.

Q: What made you want to teach? Was it something you always wanted to do, a calling, or did you follow in someone foot steps?
A: I always loved school. I was good at it and enjoyed it all the way through. I graduated from high school went straight to college and stayed in college until I graduated with my PHD. I went on to teach schools and colleges. I just love being in school.

Q: How long have you been teaching?
A: I have been teaching for 16 years.

Q: Did you grow up in Ada?
A: No, I did not I am from OKC.

Q: Why ECU?
A: It was an opportunity. I was here for a year and stayed.

Q: If you had a chance to go back and do something else with your life what would it be? What career path would you take or would you pick the same path in which you took?
A: I would go back and probably go into some kind of counseling or social work, to talk with and help people.

Q: If you had to pick a subject or field to teach in that wasn't government, politics, or history what would you teach?
A: Physics.
*(This answer surprised me: most professors pick something completely opposite or off the wall such as if they were in Accounting they want to teach art because they want to learn about the field to paint and learn to draw, but physics?)

As students we see professors as an adult or professor just standing in front of the class teaching in front of a black board or behind a podium. We do not see professors as necessarily ordinary people. As students we see professors as higher individuals just teachers, we forget they are normal people like us with lives outside of school.

Q: A professor on campus, when the suit is off, Who are you off campus? Who are you at home?
A: I am a hardcore sports fan. On the weekends I am always watching some type of sports. I am an OSU fan. I also love home improvements. I am always fixing something staying busy.

Q: What is something unique about that not many people know, that your students would not know about you that would surprise us about you?
A: I was in a band for awhile. Red dirt band. I played the accordion. I have met and played with bands. Traveled around with my band.
*( Once again complete surprise. I love red dirt country music. It is one of my favorites genres of music. It shocked me that he was in a red dirt band and has met some of my favorite red dirt bands such as Cross Canadian Ragweed. He traveled with his band that was made up of friends he grew up with.)

Through out his interview I learned he was married, a family man, with a son as well.

I am very glad I gave Professor Peaden a chance and the class a chance as well.
It has turned out to be one of my favorite classes.
Do I understand exactly what is going on? Definitely not.
I am still completely lost when it comes to the government systems and politics.
Being election year, this is definitely the year to learn and pay attention to politics, but as I said not my strong point.
The class on the other hand is very interesting and so much notes and writing, which I love.
Maybe just because I get to write, but at least I am liking the class.
